Mikey Garcia was born in Oxnard in 1987 and became a four-division world champion, holding titles in the featherweight, junior lightweight, lightweight, and light welterweight divisions during a professional career spanning fifteen years. His amateur record of 130 fights prepared him for competition at the highest level. Fernando Vargas, also born in Oxnard in 1977, compiled an amateur record of 100 wins against just 5 losses and earned a bronze medal at the 1995 Pan American Games before turning professional, eventually winning the IBF light middleweight championship. Both emerged from a boxing tradition rooted in Oxnard's athletic culture.

The city is also home to Robert Garcia, a former IBF super featherweight champion turned trainer who has been named Ring Magazine Trainer of the Year twice. Garcia was raised in Oxnard from age two and has developed into one of the sport's most respected corner men, guiding fighters through championship bouts and building a reputation for technical excellence. Victor Ortiz, who moved to Oxnard as a teenager and graduated from Pacifica High School, went on to win the WBC welterweight championship. Brandon Ríos, a current Oxnard resident, captured the WBA Regular lightweight title and earned 2012 Fight of the Year honors. This concentration of talent—born, trained, and fighting at the highest levels—has established Oxnard as a genuine boxing center.
